If you'd like to direct a domain that you have to a different domain address or subdomain, one way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain being redirected loses all its records (A, MX, and so on) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain name it's redirected to. This way, if you use a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be directed to the site you have set up, but it'll also appear in the browser address bar at all times. Other possible uses of a CNAME record are to forward all the targeted traffic from different subdomains to their main domain name, or to use the webmail service of your webhosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain simply because this kind of a record created for the main domain name renders it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Cloud Hosting

Creating a CNAME record with our cloud hosting plans is quite simple. Our in-house built Hepsia CP features a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domains, so you can create a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted within your account in just a few simple steps. You can find a video tutorial in the same section in which you can see the process first-hand. This feature gives you many options - if you set up a company website on our end, for example, the staff can use their e-mails with the company domain address, not with the address of our mail server. If you want to create a site using a different provider that offers online web design services, you can easily redirect a domain address hosted here and use it for the website. Last, but not least, if you have an online store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you can set up a CNAME record for the www subdomain and forward it to the main domain, so all your customers will be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server with our company and you would like to set up a CNAME record, it takes just a couple of mouse clicks to complete this task. The plans are managed using our in-house built Hepsia hosting CP where you will see a section committed to the DNS records of the domain addresses and subdomains hosted inside the account. To create a CNAME record, you'll simply have to choose the record type and the hostname (domain or subdomain), type where the latter is going to be pointed to and save the modification. The new record will be active almost immediately in our system and will propagate worldwide within a few hours. Editing or deleting an existing CNAME record in the account is just as simple and easy and takes a click.
